Time has not always been available from a glance at the wrist. The ‘SUNclock’ takes you back to an age when time was measured more ‘organically’ by the passage of the sun and the phases of the moon.
The central platform of the clock is the date-scale. This is divided into sections, each corresponding to a month.
The two semicircles of hour markers give the time in Greenwich Mean Time (outer ring), or British Summer Time (inner ring).
To use the clock – stand in the centre of the relevant month marker, facing the rings of keystones, as close to the central line as possible. Your shadow will indicate the time.
